PROGRAMS
At the Drysdale Tennis School at Stratton Mountain Resort
we have tailored all of our junior programs for maximum
level of learning and education in the safest possible
environment. All of our programs are overseen by qualified
staff that has your child’s best interests at heart. Our
program offerings are flexible enough to suit everyone’s
needs while still retaining a structured schedule.
Weekly Camp
This camp program runs from 830am-3pm Monday – Friday.
Each day is structured to include tennis, swimming, and
other activities and games. Our experience has allowed us to
fine tune the timetable to keep the campers motivated,
enthusiastic and learning all day. Tennis is main focus with
up to 4 hours on court each day. The camp week starts with
all campers being divided into two teams, from there each
day is a competition to gain points for your team and
ultimately win the overall camp week. The mix of competition
and skills ensure that your child learns in a realistic live
ball environment and enjoys the game more. Friday marks the
end of the team competition and culminates with either a
Pizza Party or BBQ along with their prize giving, and the
slip ‘n’ slide carnival.
Lunch and snacks are provided; children need to bring
their bathing suit if they want to swim.
Weekend Camp
This modified version of the weekly program includes all
the favorite activities from the week in a condensed format.
Running for four hours the kids are constantly on the go
with a brisk warm up, tennis skills and drills in the first
half. A brief snack break is held before going back on court
for tennis games and match play. A team game finishes the
day.
Overnight Camp
Stratton Mountain Resort is a fantastic setting for an
overnight camp and your child will thrive in the outdoor
environment that is Vermont. The overnight camp format
during the day is the same as the weekly camp. Once the day
camp finishes the overnight campers have a rest period
before returning for afternoon match play and further
instruction. After dinner each night the children will take
part in an evening activity, planned evening activities
include a campfire, mountain hike, quiz night, and a games
night. Overnight the campers will sleep at the Inn at
Stratton Mountain, where breakfast and dinner will also be
eaten. The campers are supervised 24 hours a day by their
camp counselors.
Overnight campers should plan to arrive between 4-6pm on
the Sunday at the start of their camp week. Pick up is at
3pm on the Friday at the end of their camp week.

Dan Davies, Junior Camp Superstar Counselor
Dan Davies, also a native of New Zealand, was a smash hit
last summer at the Drysdale Tennis School. Dan will return
to the junior program this year as he prepares to attend
Princeton on a tennis scholarship. When not teaching the
"Dan Davies Topspin Clinic" he is often seen fully immersed
in all areas of camp life, whether it’s feeding balls,
lifeguarding in the pool, or eating 6 sandwiches for lunch
Dan does everything with energy and enthusiasm, ensuring all
campers do the same!
Each summer Scott and Dan are joined by an all-star cast
of teammates to run the junior summer camp. The team
includes current and former college level players and often

of fun and learning as possible in the summer months of
Vermont.
FAQ
My child is an advanced player, is it worthwhile for them
to attend camp? All players regardless of skill have areas they can
improve on; our aim is to provide them with the tools and
opportunity to train hard while improving their game. The
instructors all have significant playing and coaching
experience ensuring your child will receive the best
possible instruction. As a player’s skills levels get higher
we adapt the drills and match play to suit.
How do you decide on the groups the children are in?
For
the instruction and match play portions of the day we divide
the camp into small group according to ability and age. We
are able to adjust these groups as often as we feel
necessary. Each group works on similar aspects of the game
but in a way that relates to the specific group and is best
suited for their abilities. It is our intention to have the
most evenly matched groups. If you or your child has a concern, please alert us so
that we can help make the experience positive for all.
What should my child pack for tennis camp?
All your
child needs is gym clothing, sneakers or tennis shoes, a
racquet, and a bathing suit if they wish to swim. We also
encourage children to bring sunscreen and wear a hat. If
your child does not have a racquet then we do a limited
number of spares that can be used.
For overnight tennis camp? As well as the day camp requirements, we recommend 5-6
pairs of socks, hat, shorts and t-shirts for everyday
workouts and casual clothes for evening activities. Personal
toiletries including; sunscreen, band-aids, and any
incidental (Tylenol/Advil) or prescribed medicines. (Which
will be held by a staff member). Cell phones are allowed but
will be taken away if they are abused or used at
inappropriate times. Calling cards are suggested as an
alternative. Laundry facilities will not be available.
Can my child take private lessons?
Private lessons
can be scheduled at the end of the camp day. If an
instructor is available then a private lesson may be
scheduled during swimming time at the additional private
lesson cost.
What if it rains?
We move indoors and adjust our
schedule to fit as many as possible in the best possible
environment. We have two indoor courts as well as the 15,000
sq ft recreation space for indoor tennis, basketball, soccer
and floor hockey.
What happens if a camper breaks the rules? We take our responsibility of ensuring a camper's safety
very seriously; therefore our enforcement of rules and
regulations is quite strict. Cliff Drysdale Tennis reserves
the right to remove a child from camp and send them home
without refund should their actions break the rules and/or
endanger themselves, their peers, or our staff.
TESTIMONIALS
My daughters are still talking about how much they loved
Cliff Drysdale Tennis camp in Stratton, VT. The pros and
counselors were terrific! The kids played a lot of tennis
and also enjoyed activities such as swimming, soccer and
pizza parties. Our family enjoyed the adult tennis clinic as
well as the tennis day camp this past summer, and will look
into the sleepaway camp for next summer for the kids.—C.M.,
Sept. 2009
Scott and his team are incredible. We have young
children, this was their first sports camp away from home
(we were on vacation at Stratton). The team really worked
well together, and got our kids focused upon the game of
tennis. It was a great experience for all.—D.G., Sept. 2009
It is the best camp my 3 boys ever attended-- have a 9,
7, and 4 year old and I think it is amazing that the
counselors were able to engage all of them to such an extent
that they adored every day while learning a lot. They can’t
wait for next summer! In all honesty, no weaknesses
whatsoever-- I have never had an experience where every
counselor was fabulous but these counselors really were--
every one!—J.S., Sept. 2009
I had 2 of my children in the tennis camp they were 5 and
6 and they both LOVED it. There were various ages and the
director was able to organize the courts to ability of play
well. It was an all round mixture of tennis games and just
fun that I think any age would love. While the kids were in
camp I enjoyed private lessons and clinics, which I enjoyed
and will do again. Great work out and good instruction.
—C.J, Sept. 2009
This was my daughters first year at a week long Tennis
Camp. She thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Just the right
mix of instruction, court time, fun and swimming. My only
suggestion is to provide parents with an outline of what the
children worked on at camp and suggestions for continued
practice.—R.P, Oct. 2009

FAQ
I am a beginner player, am I good enough for the school?
Most
players are nervous before joining a group class. Don’t
worry, as long as you’ve been on a court before we can work
with the skills you already have and build on them to
develop your confidence and improve your play. If you are a
beginner player or haven’t played in a while then we suggest
that you try to hit once or twice the week before you come
to begin getting your timing in order.
I’m an advanced player, is it worthwhile for me to attend
the school?
All players regardless of skill have areas they can
improve, our aim is to use your natural style combined with
our coaching and professional expertise to improve all areas
of your game, be it technical, strokes, match play or
strategy. For the more advanced players drills are tailored
to emphasize spin, speed, and depth as well as match play
and live ball drills with other advanced players and the
pro’s.
How do I know that I will be placed in a group
appropriate with my skill level?
All guests are asked
their ability level upon making their reservation. We ask
for information such as a USTA rating (3.5, 4.0 etc. if
applicable), playing history and/or years of private
instruction in order to try and match guests with players of
a similar ability level. In addition to this we evaluate all
players on the court during the warm ups and clinics. Once
we begin each clinic if it is obvious that there are
mismatches in a group then we are able to adjust groups as
we see fit. If you have questions or concerns about your
court assignment please make sure to talk to one of the
pro’s so that we can ensure your tennis experience is a
memorable one. It’s in ours as well as your best interests
to have evenly matched groupings.
How tough are the programs physically?
Our 2 ½ hour camp clinics are designed to push you! In
fact many players have come off the court stating they hit
more balls and ran more than most 3 hr and longer sessions
at other programs. However we’re not here to break you down,
the soft clay courts and the cooler summer climate in
Vermont ensure that your energy levels and enthusiasm stay
high. For the hard core that wants it we aim to please and
can provide intensive private lessons in the afternoon or
before the morning clinics.
What should I pack for tennis?
Proper tennis attire
and footwear are required. Make sure to bring a comfortable
broken-in pair of tennis shoes. Sunscreen and a hat or visor
is a must! There are drinking fountains available close to
the courts and we suggest bringing your own personal water
bottle to ensure that you stay hydrated. We also recommend
more than one racquet in case you break a string. We provide
stringing services in our pro shop as well as a full line of
Wilson rackets that are available to demo. If you have any
apparel needs during your stay our fully stocked pro shop is
on hand.
Can I take private lessons?
Private lessons can be
scheduled either before the morning clinics or in the
afternoon. Reservations can be made prior to arrival by
calling 802 297 4236. Players are also welcome and
encouraged to join in any of our other summer classes
including cardio tennis, evening clinics and our Friday
Night Round Robin.
What if it rains?
We move indoors and adjust our
schedule to fit as many as possible in the best possible
environment. We have two indoor courts for the adult schools
use should it rain so even a torrential downpour won’t
dampen your game.
What is there to do after my tennis is finished for the
day?
A huge variety of activities are on offer once you put
the racket down. Stratton Mountain Resort is a hub in summer
for hiking, biking, swimming in our pool or nearby lakes and
rivers, gondola rides, and any number of other outdoor
activities. For sore muscles take a relaxing massage at the
Stratton Sports Center. The nearby town of Manchester offers
fantastic outlets for shopping and more. Or you can just
relax, for an extensive list of off-court activities,
http://www.stratton.com/todo/summer-activities/index.htm
What options are there for my children?
The Drysdale
Tennis School is a great place for a family vacation. If
your children are interested then you can enroll them in our
junior tennis camp program where we take players of all
levels from beginners through experienced. Camp options
range from half and full day to weekly programs. Outside of
tennis there are plenty of fun family friendly activities,
see here for a full listing
http://www.stratton.com/todo/summer-activities/index.htm

TESTIMONIALS
"The tennis program at Stratton Mountain was excellent. I
attended this camp with 8 other woman from my tennis team.
The drills and activities were very good and the pros were
all talented and enthusiastic about the game. I came home
with some new pointers and ideas about how to improve my
game. These were ideas that were easy to incorporate into my
current game. It was a pleasure that we hope to repeat next
summer."—S.S., Oct. 2009
We have experienced many tennis camps and resorts over
the past 15 years all along the Eastern seaboard: New
Hampshire to Florida. This weekend, with tennis legend, the
incomparable Cliff Drysdale, at beautiful, quiet, majestic
Stratton Mountain, Vermont, was absolutely fabulous, and
probably the very best of the whole lot!! Come here for tons
of personal attention.
Cliff has a super eye for observation, well-honed from
many years of diversified, professional tennis experience,
and he is extremely helpful, articulate, charming, and
amusing. The talented, energetic, enthusiastic Scott C.,
from New Zealand, is the Director of Tennis, and is
fantastic, too! He provides right-on tennis instruction,
with a great personality, too. We really learned a lot in a
gorgeous environment, in an ideal student to teacher ratio
of 4:1,
-R.S., July 2009
Our 4.5 USTA team just came back from a intensive weekend
of training at Cliff Drysdale Tennis at Stratton with the
head pro Scott Colebourne to get ready for the upcoming
season. Our team has been to the best adult programs in the
U.S. and Scott's program is as good if not better than
those. We played 5+ hours of tennis each day and Scott
customized a program for our team's needs. Whether it was
live ball drills or the fed drills, Scott was always giving
us helpful tips to improve our games. You could tell Scott
was really interested in helping us improve and not just
there to feed balls. Before you book any other adult tennis
trip, I urge you to consider Scott's program - we will
definitely be back.—R.K, May 2009
Scott is a terrific instructor and put together a great
program specifically tailored to our group (4.5+) -- the
quality of instruction/feedback and structure of the drills
was on par/better than any major tennis resort.—J.H., May
2009
I would highly recommend Cliff Drysdale Tennis at
Stratton. The instruction was excellent and fun. The pros
were attentive, gave constructive lessons, ran fast-paced,
useful drills, and provided helpful feedback. I appreciated
the fact that they did not try to completely change my game,
but instead gave me key pointers for small changes I could
easily make to improve my level of play. They taught with
good cheer and good humor!—S.S., June 2009
I have lived in this area of Vermont for about 20 years
and have watched tennis programs come and go over the years.
The Cliff Drysdale group has taken over a moribund program
and made it sparkle. The main pros Scott, Sam, and Billy
have brought a youthful energy and ambition to Stratton
which has resulted in a resurgence of interest in tennis in
my case, after a lapse of 20 years.
Cliff Drysdale himself came to a Legends weekend and I
took two clinics in which Cliff took an active part. I was
delighted to receive concrete advice and perspective from
this great player and elegant man. He actually seemed to
care about helping me on my two handed backhand, freely
giving his time to me. I know that Cliff has worked ten
thousand of these clinics over the years and helped much
better players than I. He, by rights, should be bored by the
likes of me but he did not appear to be at all. That
enthusiasm was well appreciated by me. I really felt I
improved my game.—R.U., July 2009
Just returned from a terrific weekend of tennis with
legend Cliff Drysdale and his great staff of pros.
Travelling solo, I was grouped with 3 fantastic
intermediate+ players. The pros were energetic, motivating,
professional and fun. Cliff was approachable, warm,
supportive and nicely connected to the group. He suggested a
slight grip change on my forehand and as I played with my
regular group today they (& I!!) were stunned by some "rock
solid" forehand winners! I got some help on Sunday with my
always "iffy" serve and in play today I won my serve each
time. I am thrilled!!! --M.W., July 2009
We definitely learned so much and were extremely
impressed with the caliber of the instruction from Scott and
the Cliff Drysdale Team at Stratton. They really achieved
the perfect balance between very high quality constructive
feedback that will help take our games to the next level,
while encouraging and challenging us all in a very positive
and fun atmosphere. Also impressive was the way they all
were able to give such tailored and individualized feedback
throughout the week we were there. Very pleased with our
experience there!—E.K, Aug. 2009
Great instruction! Staff were knowledgeable and fun.
Loved the mini tournaments and the friendliness of the
staff—D.M., Aug. 2009
I participated in the Cliff Drysdale Tennis Academy for
one week during the month of August for my summer vacation.
I did the tennis intensive everyday from 930-1200 and a
daily lesson for one hour. The tennis pros were excellent,
very informative and great players. I felt like I got very
good personal attention in a group setting and worked on my
strokes and match play. It was very physical, hard work
which I really enjoyed and I really improved my game. Highly
Recommend the program.—J.L., Sept. 2009
It was an amazing program. I had not played tennis in
seven years and with Drysdale Tennis I got back on the court
and played 2-3 times a week with private lessons, clinics
and Cardio Tennis. They run a solid program with great
pros.—A.A., Oct. 2009
