PTU Profile: Sophia Geier

From: Bamberg, Germany

Favorite Shot: Backhand cross-court angle

Best Tennis Memory: My Junior year of college I won Conference Player of the Year and then I redshirted a year and didn't compete for 12 months. My senior year of college I managed to win Conference Player of the Year again and finished undefeated in conference play all spring. Receiving this honor back to back is for sure the best tennis memory I have.

What has been your favorite event or program to teach during your time at Cliff Drysdale Tennis and why? Get Newked Halloween Edition at John Newcombe Country Club - Seeing around 40 people dressed up in Halloween costumes chasing tennis balls, trying to hit pumpkins set up as targets was the funniest tennis event I've ever been a part of.

What part of being a tennis pro do you feel you've improved at the most during your time in the program? During my time in the program I've gotten a lot more comfortable at using my voice and being confident. Knowing a lot about tennis is one thing but expressing my knowledge and teaching others is a whole different story.

If you could teach a private lesson to any person in the world, who would it be and why? I would love to teach a privat lesson to somebody like Cristiano Ronaldo or David Beckham. Somebody who is a professional athlete in another sport. It would be cool to see how quickly an athlete like that can pick up a completely different sport. Also, Ronaldo and Beckham wouldn't be hard to look at while you teach them.

What advice would you have for those interested in joining the PTU program? My advice for anyone considering this program is simple. If you are really genuinely trying to prepare yourself for your future, this program is the best investment of time out there. The experience you gain from being on court, to learning from those with years of experience, will give you the skills you need to be a successful pro, executive, and beyond.
