In anticipation of our 2nd Annual CopperWynd Women’s Pro challenge, a $50,000 women's USTA Pro Circuit event held at the beautiful CopperWynd Resort & Club in Fountain Hills, Arizona, the nerves were on edge and the excitement was high!
We welcomed our new partners and beneficiary of the tournament ACEing Autism into the mix. The level of tennis was exceptional with the field showing American stars like Nicole Gibbs, Jennifer Brady, Samantha Crawford, Melanie Oudin, Taylor Townsend and teenage sensation Kayla Day along with a strong international contingent. The crowds grew with each day as did the level of tennis that climaxed with a star studded finals line up. The doubles final saw 3 of the 4 players holding either a Junior or Open Grand Slam Title with the eventual winners Taylor Townsend and Ingrid Neel prevailing over Melanie Oudin and Samantha Crawford.
The singles final featured rising Brazilian star Beatriz Hadaad taking on American Kristie Ahn in a two and a half hour battle of heavy baseline exchanges with Hadaad prevailing in 2 tight sets. Both players delivered an extraordinary level of tennis, sportsmanship and respect to each other while keeping 450 spectators on the edge of their seat!
